‘Silhouettes’ is a public art installation designed and created for Avon Cosmetics in 2009. It conveys an important message - although they are rarely seem at the office, Avon Representatives are critical to Avon’s success, and they are also the face of the company.

24 life-sized silhouettes based on real Avon Representatives were installed in outdoor areas of Avon’s head office in Northampton.

Depending on the viewing angle or time of day, the silhouettes are difficult to see, almost invisible, yet from other angles they are bold and impactful, just like the representatives in real life. At night, the black silhouettes fade away completely, while the pink and stainless steel silhouettes create colourful abstract reflections.

The installation also creates interaction between the two types of workforce. When employees walk around the building, look out of the window for inspiration or sit down for their lunch, they are reminded that the representatives are indeed their co-workers.
